Free personal Wordpress Theme

This month happily marks our tenth birthday. And in between celebrating, we decided to work a little harder to give something awesome away.

To mark the occasion we are very proud to announce the release of Greyzed – a free personal Wordpress theme.

What’s in the box?

  • Fully widgetized: Two widget ready areas in the sidebar and one in the footer.
  • Custom social share icon links for your blog posts.
  • Theme Options: Easily add your social media profiles, RSS & email Feedburner syndication links, choose to disable social sharing, as well as add your Google Analytics tracking code.
  • Supports threaded comments.
  • Fully cross browser compatible.
  • Easy contact form in the footer.

  20. MIke says:            March 15, 2010 at 5:56 am

Very cool theme! I like everything except the blogroll, social media buttons and recent comments being all the way at the bottom. I managed to put my blogroll on the left sidebar using widgets, but it also kept the one at the footer. I couldn’t figure out how to move the “social connections” someplace else. Ideas?

    Great job!

  21. Johnnie says:            March 15, 2010 at 7:20 am

Hey I’m currently looking into creating a site using wordpress and I came across this theme – looks great! I’ve been playing with it and the only thing I’m thinking it’s missing is some drop down navigation… Any chance that would be added in a future version or possibly put out in an easy plug-in? If not – it’s great anyway – just wanted to tell you all kudos and thanks :-)

  22. The Forge says:            March 15, 2010 at 10:22 am

@Bilal – It’s great to see that the theme has been converted to Blogger; thank you for preserving our link as the designers in the footer, this is naturally very important to us.

@MIke – Thank you for your kind words; The theme was designed with the social connection being at the bottom left of the website and not as a widgetized area. I will note this does as a suggestion and will consider changing it in a future release of the theme.

@Johnnie – Thanks for the suggestion; drop down menus are popular, however it’s not something we felt would work well with the design, but your request/suggestion has been noted and it will be considered in a future release, along with @MIke’s suggestion of being able to move the social links.

  23. CMG says:            March 15, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Awesome theme. I would like to see google buzz too in share it

  24. The Forge says:            March 15, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Hi CMG – Thank you very much for your kind words. Google Buzz is certaily something we have had in mind, at the moment we’re just giving it a little more time because it’s been up and down due to the privacy issues, but consider it added to our list :)

  25. Tim says:            March 16, 2010 at 8:32 am

Hey there! I love the theme, however since the most recent update the theme is no longer working on wordpress. check out what my website looks like while the theme is active.

ah ignore the comment above… i just had to clear my history. thanks!

  27. The Forge says:            March 16, 2010 at 1:19 pm

    Hi @Tim,

No problem at all, glad you resolved the issue. How are you enjoying the theme? From what I can see, it’s looking pretty good so far, well done!

  28. Scott says:            March 16, 2010 at 6:01 pm

Hey guys. Great theme – I’m proudly using it on an install of wordpress which i’m using as a content manager for my personal website.

Is it ok if I change one or two minor things and use it as the base for the layout of a website I’m working on? I think it’ll work really well – will keep the info about you at the bottom and mention you in the credits and links sections of the site.

  29. The Forge says:            March 16, 2010 at 6:04 pm

@Scott – Thank you very much for your kind words, we’re thrilled to hear that you’re using it! Yes, please feel free to do the modifications, but do come back and show us! :)

  30. Scott says:            March 16, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Cool thanks for that. Basically the only modifications are shrinking it a tiny bit as the site I’m making needs to fit inside 1024×768 and this is a bit too big for that…. and also reorganising the bottom as I won’t need all the space for the social connections sections etc.

I’ve been playing with my layout on and off for the a while for the new version of this site but i’m graphically useless beyond modifying existing layouts and the other person I’m working on the site with seems to have gone AWOL.

    Will keep you updated

Thanks for the theme! Love it!
I’m having trouble reorganizing my Pages though. They show in the right order in Dashboard but not changing on the theme? Any ideas why?

  35. The Forge says:            March 17, 2010 at 5:46 pm

    Hi Nicole,

Thank you for your kind words, thrilled to hear that you’re loving the theme! Did you try giving the pages order IDs in the dashboard? I also notice your Facebook and Twitter links at the bottom, please remove the “#” from the Greyzed Options :)

  36. Nicole says:            March 17, 2010 at 5:54 pm

I have given them all order numbers (1 to 7). Anything else I should do? Also, in what form do I enter my social networking IDs?
Thanks for your help! Not very savvy yet! :)

  37. The Forge says:            March 17, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Hi again, the social networking IDs have predefined positions, so you can’t rearrange those; I’m going to look into the page order situation a little more for you shortly and will revert with some answers..

  38. The Forge says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Hi Nicole, OK, I’ve noticed that the theme sorts those top page links by date, so in order to change the order of the pages, you will need to change the dates for your pages. You can do this by editing the pages and changing the publish date. The closer the date to today’s date, the closer to the right the page will be.

Please let me know if you come right..

  39. Brendon says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:11 pm

    Hey Nicole,

You could change out a little bit of code to get the page order numbers working. Don’t worry, its nothing too tricky.

In your dashboard click > Appearance > Editor > Click ‘Header’ on the right.

On line 33 you’ll see a line that starts with php wp_list_pages.

In that line replace “post_date” with “menu_order”.

  40. The Forge says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Hey Brendon, thanks for coming and sharing the technical solution!

  41. Johnnie says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Hey Nicole – It’s a wordpress syntax thing if you want to go in and make the manual fix.

1.) You need to go to:

    Appearance > Editor > footer.php

2.) Scroll down until you see:

3.) Within that you will see “$links” about 4 lines down.

    4.) You need to add:

    &sort_column=menu_order

    in front of “&title_li=’);”

5.) when you’re done it should look similar to mine (example below – my pages visible number will be different than yours – you should have “6″ where I have “9″):

    $links = get_pages(’number=9&depth=1&sort_column=menu_order&title_li=’);

This is the fix – I had the exact same issue about 2 days ago. You can check out my blog to see the result. It’s still a Work in Progress – so please forgive the lack of content.

  42. Johnnie says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Way better job explaining that than I did Brendon. Nicole – follow his directions, I forgot to say take out “post_date” b/c I had already done it :-)

  43. Nicole says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Thank you! I changed the code, and it is working great now. Thanks for your ideas!

  44. The Forge says:            March 17, 2010 at 6:19 pm

@Johnnie – Thank you so much for participating and sharing you knowledge, we really do appreciate it mate.

I’ve been messing with it the last few days, and I noticed that my “newer posts” and “older posts” on my post pages needed to be swapped.

May have just been mine because of how I’ve set things up – but I just wanted to make you all aware. I’ve already made the fix in my single.php file in the theme editor.

BTW – one question I have is with the RSS feed. The link at the very bottom is active and works. However, the icon at the top is not hyperlinked. It’s simply a dead icon. Is that normal, or am I experiencing a glitch?

    @swider8814 – I will see what I can do for you :)

@KaaN – Thank you very much!

@Mark – Thank you for your kind words. The icon isn’t the actual link, the word “rss” is, so no glitch your side mate.

  84. Mike says:            March 25, 2010 at 3:28 am

I was actually going to mention what Mark said about the RSS icon. This should be a priority, I would think, when you set out on a new version. The large icon so clearly calls out for “click me” “subscribe” and yet – it does nothing. A visitor shouldn’t have to drag his cursor around looking for the RSS feed. At the very least, I would think the entire “stay updated via rss” should be linked. It’s a bit confusing because you’ve got the big RSS logo with no hyperlink and then there’s this big arched arrow that points to the beginning of a line with no hyperlink. You literally have to go over to the actual word “rss” to get the link. You guys have done a phenomenal job with this theme, but I would actually call this a “design flaw” as in somebody goofed in thinking about a visitor’s practical usage of that space on the design. But again, please take this as healthy criticism only – it’s a great looking theme. Good job!

  85. mubay says:            March 25, 2010 at 5:04 am

hello!, we really like this template for blogger, however I wonder is there is a way to make it show more than 1 entry on the main site, I mean normally you can change that option from the Blogger config, but on this template it only shows the last entry and the other ones are only accessible as “older entries” even if they are make one after another.

  86. Pakito says:            March 25, 2010 at 2:35 pm

@Pakito – Appreciate the kind words, glad you’re enjoying the theme!

@mubay – Unfortunately we do not deal with Blogger, nor did we build the Blogger template, so I am unable to assist you, sorry.

  88. Mark Doebler says:            March 25, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Guys… I completely agree with Mike. The RSS really is a bit of a design flaw. You have one of the MOST VISUALLY APPEALING templates that I have yet to see… which is why I have switched. However, anyone familiar with the rss icon is going to go to the icon… not search for the tiny “rss” hyperlink. I’ve been running my own blog for over two years, and it actually took me going to other users of the template to actually find it. I give you HUGE kudos for the overall design… but this really should be addressed. Cheers :)

Hi Brigitte, so great to hear from another happy user. What you are looking at is a div called ‘rss’ and obviously the active state – with some CSS you will be able to change the colour of it as well as the size of the font. We do not, however, offer CSS help for this theme as it is free and we do not have the resources..

  96. Daniele says:            March 29, 2010 at 4:22 pm

    Hello!
I found your theme on wordpress.org and I have just installed it on my blog.
    It’s pretty cool :)
For 1 year I used Atahualpa theme, but now I think I’ll keep yours.
I would like to suggest to add a third column on the right side of the pages.
What do you think about it?
I try to disable the english ordinal suffix on each post, to set the italian date, but I got no results.
    Could you help me please?

Thanks in advance for your kind collaboration.

  97. The Forge says:            March 29, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Hi Daniele, thank you for your kind words; we can definitely take a 3rd column into consideration for a possible release in a future deployment of the theme. I am not familiar with changing ordinal suffix’s, are you usually able to change this in other themes?

  98. Daniele says:            March 29, 2010 at 4:44 pm

    Well,
I tried to modify the “single.php”.
I know that in a situation like “l, jS F Y” I have to erase “S” but in this case my
operation don’t work. Dates keep “st”, “th”, or “nd” close each day.
For example “22nd Marzo 2010″ should be “22 Marzo 2010″ to be conformed to Italian calendar.
Could you suggest a solution, please?

  99. The Forge says:            March 29, 2010 at 4:47 pm

@Daniele – Have you tried Googling? This isn’t something that I have done before..

  100. Daniele says:            March 29, 2010 at 4:53 pm

    Yes I had.
    I found no useful answers.
Don’t worry, your “creation” is still nice ;)

  101. The Forge says:            March 29, 2010 at 5:03 pm

Hi Daniele, I will have a look and see what I can come up with for you though :)

  103. Daniele says:            March 29, 2010 at 6:41 pm

    I didn’t look in (index.php) before…
Sorry for any inconvenience caused :-P

    Hello !
I would like to use your theme for my wordpress site, but i’m French, and my visitors will be too… and some of them don’t speak english… So, i’ve translated some imgs, but I didn’t managed to do a great job on “haveyoursay.jpg” … Should it be possible for non-english users to get imgs with nothing written on them ? if i could just get this one, it should be great (if it exists, could it be send to me by mail please ?)… but if it’s not possible, i will try something else to change the img.

Thanks for this free theme ! It’s a great job ;)

  114. The Forge says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Hi Stephen, it’s fantastic to hear that you like our theme so much; tell me, what version of Wordpress are you using? Secondly, could you provide me a link to look at it, it’s hard to guess, as nobody else has experienced this problem as of yet..

  115. stephen says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:12 pm

Wordpress version 2.9.2 thanks alot for your help

  116. The Forge says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Hi Stephen, ah, did you take the splash page down? Thank you. Ok, I see the pages at the top, home, about, store media, what’s going wrong? Wordpress 2.9.2 should be great, I’ve thoroughly tested it on that release..

I noticed that you have removed our credit link from the footer of the website, may I ask why you have done this? You should be keeping the link in there, especially if you want help from us :)

  117. stephen says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:23 pm

i will be more than happy to put it back for you guys i was just trying to make it look professional… im in the band im no web developer its missing a page tour should also be up their it’s in the pages section and it’s published but it wont show up?

  118. The Forge says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Hi Stephen, we would naturally appreciate it if you would add the link back. We spend a great deal of time building these themes, and the credit link is our way of gaining something from the process. Ok, I will pop you an email shortly to get some more details from you..

  119. The Forge says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:49 pm

@Stephen – Right, the problem is that your “tour” page is a child page of a parent, only parent pages show up in the top level navigation :)

  120. stephen says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:53 pm

the reason it was set that way is because i was just trying to get it too show up at all but it wont :(

  121. stephen says:            April 5, 2010 at 9:57 pm

ive tried deleting the page recreating it, setting it parent, setting it to child, changing the name of the page…. everything i could think of disabling the page order plugin i see the theme dosn’t support drop down menu’s that was my other idea and the pages all work fine on other themes

  122. The Forge says:            April 5, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I made a minor change and it’s working now. I will update the theme and do a new version release asap. Hope you’re happy now..

My pleasure @Stephen – This actually pointed something new out to me, so it’s been good for me too :)

  125. Mike says:            April 5, 2010 at 11:20 pm

When you do that new version release – think about at least defaulting to a red “rss” so it’s easier to find as a link. Thanks!

  126. Goran says:            April 6, 2010 at 10:18 am

    Hi!

I’ve noticed the same bug as Johnnie has a while ago about the “newer posts” and “older posts” links on the post view page (single.php). The links as switched – the “older posts” is actually a link to a post that has been posted after this one (time-wise) and the “newer posts” links to a older one. This is clearly visible if you go to preview here: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/greyzed – take a look how the posts are ordered on the frontpage then look how those 2 links are made.
I’ve already fixed it myself as well, but just wanted to let you guys know.

Otherwise this theme is amazing, so thank you :)

  127. The Forge says:            April 6, 2010 at 10:39 am

@Mike – Thanks, I’ll see what the studio thinks about it :)

@Goran – Thank you, we are aware and it’ll definitely be fixed in the next release. In terms of immediate fixers for current theme users, DuckRanger wrote a blog post explaining the fix and you can read about it here – http://duckranger.com/2010/04/a-little-bug-in-the-greyzed-wordpress-theme/

  128. Scott says:            April 6, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Quick question – why does your Greyzed Wordpress theme seem to not allow italics? Is it because it uses the Tahoma font?

I like the font used in the theme, but is there a way to make italics usable? Thanks!

  129. The Forge says:            April 6, 2010 at 3:49 pm

Hi Scott, thank you for pointing this out. I will definitely include it in our next release, but for the time being it’s quite easy to fix. If you open the reset.css file, you can simply locate “em” near line 22/23 and remove it and your italics will work again.

Please let me know if you come right..

  134. emanoyhl says:            April 8, 2010 at 3:43 pm

    hi there!
i’m using your Greyzed theme from the wordpress site on my personal site,
and i wanted to ask a few things

    1. is it ok if i break the line where the credit for you goes? – the footer
shows copyright, name of site, all rights reserved. greyzed theme created by
the forge…. powered by wordpress. (etc…) it’s all on one line – and i
want to have the copyright/site/all rights on one line, then the greyzed
theme created….. on the next line – is that ok? (i’m asking permission) :)

    2. near the bottom, above the footer is the blog roll, recent comments, and
social links – but it’s separated very far from the footer…. is there a
way to make that huge empty space smaller?

    thank you!!

i want to show the site i’m working on but it’s not entirely ready yet….
but i promise to show you once it’s ready – i’ll give you the link before it
launches to make sure i’m not breaking any of the copyright stuff on your
    theme :)

thanks again for a great theme!

  135. The Forge says:            April 8, 2010 at 3:49 pm

Hi @emanoyhl, thank you for your comments!

    1. That’s not a problem at all, thank you very much for asking.
    2. You’ll need to tweak the CSS code that we wrote, unfortunately for free themes we don’t offer support for the code, as it would result in us spending hours and hours helping people made code changes and we’d never get any real work done, I hope you can appreciate that.

Can’t wait to see what it looks like! It’s our pleasure, glad you like it :)

  136. Nimo says:            April 9, 2010 at 7:29 am

Guys – thanks for the great theme. Really love it!
@emanoyhl – in style.css, line 1100 (for v1.0.4 of the theme) – you’ll find the specifications for the #footer div.
It has a set height of 455px. You can change it to suit you.
    Cheers.

if you notice at the top of the theme – where the sidebar/header/maincontent meet – the image of the very top edge of the torn paper – it’s not inline….

i thought it was just my website when i noticed so i deleted and reinstalled but same problem – so i checked the demo link from above, and it has the same problem….

if you also scroll to the right and then all the way down to the bottom – the footer and header and content are not in line….

    any help? :)

    I think I’ve found 2 bugs:

1- the More tag doesn’t seem to appear.

2- If you’re using the ‘Audio Player’ plugin and then you go to your Archive posts, you’ll receive “[Audio clip: view full post to listen]” instaed of the actual embedded player.

I’ve tried a few different themes and they don’t present these problems, although I liked the design of your theme better. Any idea/fix for this?

    Hello there

I’m using your template Greyzed 1.0.3 for my website. I like this theme a lot and I’m trying to get the most out of it.

But I have a little problem. For now, my posts are always entirely shown on my homepage, while I only want to post a little summary of the message there so that people click through and view the whole message in a new page.

I can’t find a way to make this happen. Am I doing something wrong, do I need to adjust some settings or is there a plugin that can fix this?

Thanks in advance for helping me out!

But yet another question! How can I make the links to the post open in new windows?

  151. emanoyhl says:            April 14, 2010 at 3:11 pm

    here’s a question – is there a custom login/registration themed page?
either way, we must make our own login link on the frontpage yes?

  152. The Forge says:            April 14, 2010 at 6:22 pm

@emanoyhl – Unfortunately there is no custom log in page; You are correct about creating your own links. In our Organic theme we provided an admin link from the home page, but decided not to include that functionality on this theme.

  153. The Forge says:            April 14, 2010 at 6:23 pm

Hi @Benjamien – You would be better off asking your questions on http://www.wordpress.org as this forum is for questions and answers specific to our themes and not Wordpress in general.

  154. The Forge says:            April 14, 2010 at 6:24 pm

  155. The Forge says:            April 14, 2010 at 6:26 pm

@spanish_biker79 – These are not bugs; not all themes cater for all requirements. When it comes to free theme releases, we invest a lot of time building the themes as it is, unfortunately any more time being spent would make these ventures not worth our while. I hope you can appreciate the theme for what it is :)

  166. The Forge says:            April 19, 2010 at 11:00 am

@Alex – Due to the nature of this theme being a free theme, we do not offer help outside the direct functionality of the theme. What you are looking for is CSS assistence and not theme assistence. Resizing the width of the entire theme will not be a quick fix though.

adding to my issue above about getting it to order page at the top correctly i was wondering if we could get the ability to turn off the built in “Popular Tags” and “Post Archives” widgets in the options menu…? thanks in advance.

  170. The Forge says:            April 25, 2010 at 8:37 pm

Hi madLyfe, did you download the latest release of the them? It resolved a problem with the pages navigation. As far as the order goes, the function in use at the moment is post_date, which means it’s ordering according to the date the pages were published, so if you alter their date/time properties, they’ll shift. The ideal way to do this is changing the function on line 33 of header.php to use sort_column=menu_order.

Because this theme is a free release, we do not do functional changes based on one or two results. Should a huge demand come for on/off functionality for the Popular Tags and Post Archives, then we might consider adding the functionality.

  171. madLyfe says:            April 25, 2010 at 10:33 pm

ah ok i totally understand.. thanks for helping me with the sort_column=menu_order, which worked. is there something i can do to get rid of the popular tags and post archives widgets?

    Hi guys,

LOVE the new Greyzed theme. I do have a issue/question that i need a hand with. In Firefox and Google Chrome it looks great. In IE8, its looks terrible. I turned on capatabilty mode on and it looks better but the spacing is off and formating is out of wack. If you guys could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! I am new to alot of this, so be gentle :)

  175. The Forge says:            April 26, 2010 at 4:09 pm

@Jane – Thank you for trying out the theme. Unfortunately, due to the fact that this theme is free, who do not provide assistence when it comes to code changes. The contact form was removed due to Wordpress.org’s request.

@Matthew – I think you must have made a mistake during your changes, because we tested the theme thoroughly on Internet Explorer and it works..

  176. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 4:14 pm

The theme does work, it just doesn’t look right. If you look at it through Firefox you will see how it is suppose to look. In IE8, the spacing is off and the blog starts at the bottom of the page. Adds are on the right, etc. I just pulled it up now and it looks bad.

  177. The Forge says:            April 26, 2010 at 5:11 pm

@Matthew – I am aware of what you are referring to, however, before your changes it will have worked across the various browsers.. It looks as though a div hasn’t been closed or that there’s an element that’s wider than it’s bounds..

  178. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Ok great. Is there a certain file i should look at for this to start off with?

  179. The Forge says:            April 26, 2010 at 5:55 pm

  181. The Forge says:            April 26, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Hi Matthew, ye, posting code won’t work. Have you tried reuploading the original theme and testing on Internet Explorer? Obviously back up your other one..

  182. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 6:31 pm

I have tried that and it looks a little better, but the formatting is still off. The recent posts is at the top in IE with compatibility on but the post line up correctly. They are at the very bottom of the blog. There was a link awhile back i stumbled across that will help tell you where coding errors were, but i cant remember the link. I emailed you the code along with the original below it, seen as how it wouldn’t post here. Thanks again for your help on this issue.

  183. The Forge says:            April 26, 2010 at 6:36 pm

@Matthew, see if you look at our demo site – http://www.theforge.co.za/greyzed-demo/ – you will see that it appears correctly in Internet Explorer. It’s for this reason and because it’s a free theme that I can’t spend lots of time looking through your code. I hope you understand..

  184. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Yes it does appear correctly for the demo. I agree with that. I’m sure you busy, so i will just keep digging at it.

  185. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 6:40 pm

I guess my next question is what do you guys charge to fix something like that?

  186. Matthew Curtis says:            April 26, 2010 at 9:56 pm

    I got it fixed. Thanks.

  187. Josue Molina says:            April 27, 2010 at 6:15 am

Using this for a youth ministry. pretty tight man! thanks! Will definitely consider ur stuff for my other projects.

  188. Matthew Curtis says:            April 27, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I have a question. On the demo of the Greyzed Theme, does the notebook paper continue the length of the page in Internet Explorer if you have multiple blog posts on the main page?

  189. The Forge says:            April 27, 2010 at 11:39 pm

@Matthew – Glad you got the problem fixed, what was it?

@Josue – Fantastic, thank you very much for your kind words!

  190. Matthew Curtis says:            April 28, 2010 at 3:45 pm

It was how i added the rss feed logo in. It was bad coding on my part.

  191. The Forge says:            April 29, 2010 at 12:52 am

    No problem @Matthew

  192. wombateer says:            May 1, 2010 at 7:50 am

Just wondering, if the Greyzed theme gets an update any time soon? Any chance you would look at adding a MySpace link to the (Social Connections) section of this amazing free theme!

  193. The Forge says:            May 2, 2010 at 1:34 pm

@wombateer – We released an update quite recently, so it’s going to be a while until the next update. I’ll add your request to my list though and definitely consider it..

  203. The Forge says:            May 14, 2010 at 2:07 am

@Fitness – You would need to know CSS to remove the speech bubble that you’re referring to, there are a number of CSS help websites out there where the users will easily be able to assist you. Good luck!

    fantastic theme by the way….

    Hey guys,

sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this..

but I just downloaded your awesome web theme “greyzed” and
I can’t figure out how to remove the text “stay updated via rss”
    from the header area..

can u give me any help?

    thanks so much,
    -Dan Miraie

  206. The Forge says:            May 24, 2010 at 6:05 pm

@bob – You can set up the links in the Greyzed Options panel, which you’ll see down the left hand side of your Dashboard, looks for Greyzed Options.

@dan – You should be able to do this in the header.php file..

  207. Clarice says:            May 30, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I’m new to the blog world and greyzed was my first and only option! Congratulations on the style and grit. As I’m still learning a lot of things, I’m wondering ….am I able to shift “latest posts” and that whole section to the right side instead?

  208. Psych says:            May 31, 2010 at 11:31 am

This is regarding the RSS icon at the top. I have read that some of the posts above have already pointed out if you have missed the link at the icon.

I would suggest that there be a link on the icon too. Word ‘rss’ there is too small.

  209. Hari says:            June 3, 2010 at 7:44 pm

    Hi,

I love the theme and I’m using it on the blog. I have a little complaint though. There is a fair bit of space on the left sidebar (Above the widgets and below the header). Can’t the widgets be shifted higher so they align with the post area?

    Thanks.
    Cheers. :)

  210. The Forge says:            June 4, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Hi @Clarice – You can do it, but not by simply choosing an option, you will need a decent understanding of CSS code to achieve it..

  211. The Forge says:            June 4, 2010 at 12:22 pm

@Hari – It is definitely something we can consider. In the meanwhile, you should be able to make changes using paddings/margins on the tags..

  214. The Forge says:            June 5, 2010 at 12:37 am

Thank you for your kind words @Vincent :)

@Chris – Following: Dashboard > Appearance > Greyzed Options .. you’ll see a “Social Links for Posts?” checkbox, check this box and social sharing will appear on your posts :)

I just changed themes from MistyLook to the new Greyzed which I find an amazing looking theme. Only problem I have is with the headers – I was using header 3 in MistyLook and now, in Greyzed, the header text size is way too big… if the header goes on to 2 lines, the text in the header overlaps because it is too big. I dont have the money to buy the Custom CSS Upgrade just to change the headers… is there any way to change the header sizes, and maybe the fonts without buying the CSS upgrade? With thanks. And again, great theme.

Also, I am a new at this, what is the benefit of having comments on?

    Thanks

  225. The Forge says:            June 13, 2010 at 12:32 pm

@Edwyn – Thank you for your kind words.

@Takver – You’ll need to use CSS to do that, unfortunately we do not supply CSS troubleshooting because it’s a free theme.

@ Dã H?c – Thank you for your kind words.

@Ivan – That’s great, thank you for your support.

@Anonymous – You will need to make a change to the index.php and single.php files to not have it display anything when comments are off. Because this is a free theme, we do not offer full troubleshooting.

I use your Greyzed Theme for wordpress and love it but I also need a blank page for another section of my site and I would like them to match. So basically I needed the sidebar removed from the layout and have the the right column’s width to be the total of the sidebar and right column to form one main single div. So I would have one main div to add my content in. I would want the paper background to stretch across the new main div. I dont have the psd file to accomplish this, you guys did not include it. I was wondering if maybe i could get it from you or maybe have you edit the the template to match what i needed if it wasn’t to expensive. It would also not have to be setup for wordpress it could just be a static html layout. thanks

I was trying this them at first at official wordpress hosting with WP 3.0 and the new feature “custom-menu” was working great.
Then I tryed your theme at my own hosting and this feature was not working: “The current theme does not natively support menus, but you can use the “Custom Menu” widget to add any menus you create here to the theme’s sidebar.”

  247. The Forge says:            June 28, 2010 at 12:19 pm

@milionkc – We have submitted an updated version of the theme and are still waiting for it to be approved. Until then, the menu system won’t function as it should with Wordpress 3.0 – The theme was submitted last week, so I’d imagine that Wordpress will approve it shortly. Thank you for trying out our theme, we appreciate it!

@Hank Tank – Looks good! We are however dissapointed that you removed the credit to The Forge, which is a requirement for using this theme.

    @Adinaldo – ?

@armun – Unfortunately, because this theme is free, we do not offer code support, however, you might want to look at widgets or learn the basics behind Wordpress sidebars..

@Chad – With knowledge of Wordpress development, you would be able to.

@Kal – There should be a link called “Greyzed Options” under “Appearance”, on the left of the Dashboard, once the theme has been activated.

  255. Calvin Starnes says:            July 6, 2010 at 8:16 pm

Love the theme, it has suited my “theme” perfectly. I had a few questions that I wasn’t able to get answers to on the WP Support forums.

    1) How can I tighten up the spacing between posts?

    2) I want to remove the comment bubble and “Comments Off” for that one specific post. How do I do that?

    3) Is there anyway to add a comment link? I have created a workaround, but that requires me to have my oldest comments last. And generic links direct you to the bottom of the comment box that looks odd.

    4) How can I change the color of links? Right now it is defaulted at red. And can I do it for specific pages or items i.e. TIME/DATE or Post Titles or new Links I put into posts?

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

  256. Calvin Starnes says:            July 8, 2010 at 10:41 pm

I broke two of my RSS feeds and I don’t know how since I wasn’t working them. The “fixed” one at the top of the page just reloads the home page and the “POSTS RSS” in the footer no longer functions.

The “COMMENTS RSS” in the footer still works fine.

Awesome free design guys! We’re using it for our gaming/comic podcast’s site. Quick question though, Is there still an update waiting for approval? Or is everyone already using the last one you guys worked on?

  263. The Forge says:            July 13, 2010 at 11:18 am

Hi @Calvin, thanks for the comment. Let me see where I can assist:

    1. You would need to have a basic understanding of CSS and Wordpress to be able to do this. There will be padding and margins that you’ll need to alter on the index.php file most probably. Because this is a free theme, we don’t assist in this manner due to time constraints.

    2. You will need to edit the index.php and single.php files to exclude the source code.

    3. You can do this, but you’d need someone who understands Wordpress quite well to assist you in positioning it.

    4. This is a CSS change, I suggest you spend some time on Google and learn the basics of CSS, as this is a huge requirement when it comes to altering things on a website.

From what I can tell, you’re in need of some training – When it comes to altering websites, an understanding of HTML and CSS is crucial. On top of this, you would need a basic understanding oh PHP to achieve some of the things you want.

  264. The Forge says:            July 13, 2010 at 11:20 am

@Archie – The one that’s out at the moment is stable and will work for you. We will, however, be doing quite a drastic release in the next few weeks, so look out for that!

  265. Brian H. says:            July 15, 2010 at 12:52 am

I originally installed the Greyzed theme on Wordpress. I then switched my host to go-daddy but still utilized the Greyzed theme. After I switched to the godaddy host, google Analytics was working properly for about a day and then it stopped accruing data. I then uninstalled the code and reinstalled it and still no luck. I then deleted my profile on google and recreated it and replaced the code again and it still does not work. I have placed the analytics code in the appropriate field box in the greyzed settings. What am I missing? When I click on View Source of my site the analytics code can not be found. Please help!

    Hi The Forge Team,

First, thanks for a great theme! I’ve been using it on my blog and I’ve been really happy with it. I have a few ideas for my blog though that perhaps you can help out:

    a) Is it possible to add another sidebar on the right side? I wanted to add an advertising box for sponsors.

    b) How about a banner on top of the page, it’s also for advertising?

    c) Lastly, is it possible to use the “read more/read less” functionality on posts so that the post can be collapsed to save space?

    Thanks,
    Mike

This is a wonderful theme. I thought you’d like to know it is being used for the blog of the Vice President of my country. He is very happy with his blog, readers are happy, everybody is happy. Thank you so very much, forgers!

  269. The Forge says:            July 15, 2010 at 5:08 pm

Dear VP Web Pythia – Wow. That is probably the best adaptation we’ve seen of one of our themes and we’re honoured! We will most probably feature it on our website as well.

  270. VP Web Pythia says:            July 15, 2010 at 10:59 pm

I am very glad to know you liked it. It is always kind of tricky to work over the design of somebody else, according to what the designer of the blog has said. She’s also happy (and also a little relieved) to know about your answer. We’ll love to see it featured, let us know when it happens!

    Hi,

First I’d like to thank you for Greyzed theme, I am using it on my blog at http://theblackfedorablog.com. However, I am having a hard time how to place my logo, it’s way too high. I’ve been trying to find the correct code to make it appear with space below my menu bar.

Here’s the code on my CSS:

    #header {
    margin: 0px;
    height: 260px;
    width: 1040px;
    color: #000;
background: url(’images/newlogo.jpg’) top center no-repeat; } I don’t know much about html’s or programming, so am really lost. I love your Greyzed theme so much, it made my blog look professional. :)

    Best regards

  272. The Forge says:            July 19, 2010 at 10:05 am

VP Web Pythia – I will pop you an email :)

@Ryan – Unfortunately due to the nature of this theme being free, we are not actively assisting with topics such as html/css and such. My opinion would be to research margins and paddings, which could be used to create more of a gap above the header..

  273. Ryan says:            July 19, 2010 at 10:32 am

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I already found the error and was able to see my logo just as I wanted it to appear. :)

    Hi there,

We are using Greyzed for our website and we love it as much as others do…however one small request and under “Social Groups” why no link for MySpace? Still a great social site for indie bands.

    Hope you consider the add.

    Thanks,

    -Greg

  276. The Forge says:            July 20, 2010 at 10:43 am

Hi Greg, really pleased to hear that you’re enjoying the theme! I must admit, we did think about all the various social networks, the problem is that it’s not possible to include them all, so after some research, we choose the ones we felt would work best.

You could upload a MySpace image and replace one of the other social networks if we were desperate though..

    Hi,
on the greyzed theme, which is a great theme by the way, how do I get my name to go after it says By on each post or page?
    Thanks,

  278. The Forge says:            July 21, 2010 at 10:42 am

    Hi Kelly,

Thank you for the compliment. You would need a basic understanding of HTML and CSS to be able to do this, as it requires you making changes to the index.php file..

  279. Michael says:            July 21, 2010 at 10:51 am

Actually, Kelly, just create a “user” being your name. When you use the Wordpress UI to compose your post there is a place to select which user name appears after “By.”

  280. The Forge says:            July 21, 2010 at 11:06 am

Hi Michael, I think I misunderstood, if “admin” is appearing there as it stands, then your suggestion is 100% on the mark. Thanks for stepping in and commenting, appreciate it.

  281. sally says:            July 21, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Hi! When I was using Greyzed as a wordpress.com website, the menu at the top of the page had these nice drop-down menus. (for example, http://nycoaa.wordpress.com/)

Now that i’ve switched to wordpress.org and installed wordpress 3.0 on dreamhost, the pretty drop downs are gone: http://nycoiladdicts.org/

Is there a way of getting the drop downs back? Thank you!

  282. Michael says:            July 22, 2010 at 10:27 am

By the way, I’m loving your theme! If you look you’ll see it’s pretty much the baseline theme with just a few plug-ins. I love it!

  283. Christine says:            July 22, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Hi there! I recently started using your template titled “Greyzed” for my wordpress blog.

The only problem I’m having is that none of my links to other blogs and sites show up on the sidebar like with other templates…is there a way of fixing this?

    Thanks in advance!

  284. The Forge says:            July 22, 2010 at 5:30 pm

@sally – Correct, the theme was updated to make use of the new Wordpress 3.0 menu functionality, however, it has not been approved for the Wordpress.org database just yet. The theme will, however, be updated and available in about a month from now, with some extra bonuses, I’ll keep you posted.

    @Michael – Thank you very much :)

@Christine – Have you tried adding a blogroll widget to the site?

  285. sally says:            July 22, 2010 at 6:25 pm

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! And I’m excited to see the new rollout of the site. I have another question:

In the fields for social media (under greyzed options in the dashboard), what are you supposed to insert? It should start with #, but when I put in my flickr or twitter username after that, it just goes to the page: mydomain.org/#flickrusername, which shows up as my home page. And if I put in the full link the flickr button then goes to http://www.mydomain.org/http://www.flickr.com/photos/flickrusername. Which then gets a 404 error since that page doesn’t exist. How do I get it to actually link to flickr or twitter or facebook? I’m so confused!

  286. Erick says:            July 23, 2010 at 9:46 am

    Hello,

First of all thanks a lot for this beautiful theme.

I’ve just installed in my blog and I’ve noticed a
strange behaviour when using Chrome or Safari.
If you want to leave a comment and click with the mouse on the text area leaving the website empty, the cursor is automatically moved to
    website field.

    Thanks

  287. The Forge says:            July 23, 2010 at 9:50 am

@sally – No problem. For those fields, you’d put the full address, so for twitter, put it, “http://www.twitter.com/sally”. I think you must be inputting the incorrect thing sally, because I’ve just tested it out my side with success..

@Erick – Thanks for pointing that out, that’s a weird bug because it doesn’t happen in Internet Explorer or Firefox and tabbing into it from the website field seems to work. I will investigate further, thank you.

  288. Kyle says:            July 23, 2010 at 1:46 pm

    Hello Forge,

I had the same problem as Sally, where I moved my blog from wordpress.com to .org, and lost the great dropdown menus. Did I read your comment correct that a version with drop down menus won’t be available to download for a month? Or is that just when you plan on releasing an updated version? Didn’t know it took Wordpress so long to approve themes!

    Thanks!

Hi and thank you a lot for the theme, I adapted it a little bit to stick with my work…

Well I have a couple of questions though.

The first one is I tried to make a child theme to put my modifications there instead of putting them in the greyzed theme files directly, but the child theme doesn’t appear in my dashboard. I tried with an other theme and it worked, so can I do something to be able to do that with greyzed?

The second one is just about the page order on the menu bar. I choosed the order of the pages including numbers (this way http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/) but it doesn’t work with greyzed, an idee?

    Thank you in advance

  292. Little Lost Linden says:            July 26, 2010 at 1:49 am

“@Archie – The one that’s out at the moment is stable and will work for you. We will, however, be doing quite a drastic release in the next few weeks, so look out for that!”

Just curious if this is an update for Greyzed, and if so, is it an update for wordpress.org, or .com?

If it’s for .com, it would be nice to have a way to hide the title and tagline for those who use the custom CSS upgrade to alter the background image but don’t want to remove the title\tagline for SEO and Browser reasons. Love the Greyzed theme by the way. It fits my blog category perfectly.

  293. The Forge says:            July 26, 2010 at 11:11 am

@Kyle – It’s not about Wordpress taking that long to approve the theme, it’s about us getting everything in order, we’re releasing it with several more features than just the drop down menus.

  294. The Forge says:            July 26, 2010 at 11:13 am

The MixMason – All images are packaged with the theme, if you’ve made changes, my guess is that you made a mistake..

  295. The Forge says:            July 26, 2010 at 11:28 am

@Anaïs – Thank you for your kind words, glad to hear that you like the theme! I’m not familiar with child themes, but I doubt it’s a problem with Greyzed specifically, because it’s a tried and tested theme accepted by Wordpress themselves. Ah, I think it’s ordered by date and not ID, you could change this in the header.php file though, look for the ‘orderby’ function in the wp_list_pages() call. You can get a list of potential parameters from here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/query_posts#Orderby_Parameters

  296. The Forge says:            July 26, 2010 at 11:35 am

@Little – The version running on Wordpress.com has the latest upgrades with the dropdown menus. The version on Wordpress.org is stable and tested, but it doesn’t cater for the drop down menus, this will be updated in the next few weeks as we’re grouping a number of upgrades together. We have no control over the .com version, Wordpress took it and made the changes they wanted and published it..

  297. The Mix Mason says:            July 26, 2010 at 7:07 pm

Just one word, this is version 1.0.4, which doesn’t include the drop down menus, a new version 1.0.5 will be released in about a month with a whole bundle of upgrades, so keep your eyes open for that one as well, so you can upgrade :)

@The forge Thank you very much for your quick answer. For those who want to choose the order of the page as I did you have to replace wp_list_pages(’sort_column=post_date&depth=1&title_li=’) by wp_list_pages(’sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=’)

For the child page, I found it strange that I succeded to make it work with “twentyten” and not with “greyzed”. If you learn something new, just tell me.

Thank tou again for the help… and the theme! :-)

  313. The Forge says:            August 3, 2010 at 12:58 pm

  314. Jason Sizemore says:            August 3, 2010 at 3:53 pm

    Hey Guys,

Love the theme. Seems to be rather bug-free, as well. That’s very commendable as so many free WP Themes are junk.

I am having an odd issue, however, with italics. In short, they’re not working. Is this something that is turned off in Greyzed? If it is, how do I turn it back on?

  315. spaghetti stunt says:            August 3, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Another problem I found is that with dmsguestbook I create the tables at random.

  316. The Forge says:            August 4, 2010 at 11:26 am

@Spaghetti – My suggestion would be to add some CSS code to the theme to handle the tables. Due to the nature of this theme being free, we do not offer active support on coding related matters at this time. There are a number of resources online that will explain and provide you with code to style tables, a good starting place would be somewhere like w3schools – http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_table.asp – Their examples are easy to understand about you could quickly copy and paste code into your style.css file..

I might also suggest that you don’t use plugins which render tables or strange css layouts, rather look for a more up to date plugin :)

  326. The Forge says:            August 18, 2010 at 5:46 pm

My advice would be to find someone who knows how to do web design and ask them if they can assist you in adding the logo and photograph. Good luck!

As one designer to another, I know you guys are busy, so I’ll be quick.

We are using your Greyzed Wordpress theme for a human trafficking awareness campaign called Stop die Traffick. Our logo uses a bright pink (see attached), but the theme uses red as a highlight colour.

How do we go about changing all the reds to pink (it’s actually 100% magenta)? The link to the site: http://stopdietraffick.wordpress.com/

Can you help us with this?

Thank you kindly for your time!

  328. The Forge says:            August 19, 2010 at 10:59 am

    Hi Dian,

Thank you for the comment. In order to do this, you will need an understanding of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) – Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used to describe the presentation semantics (that is, the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. In Wordpress, the file which contains the style sheets is style.css which is located in the theme folder. You will need an understanding of CSS in order to change all the references to red to pink..

    Hope that helps.

@Peter – We love hearing from Greyzed fans, so thank you for being one. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this theme being a free one, we do not actively offer technical support for the theme. However, what I can tell you is that you’ll need a decent understanding of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to achieve what you are hoping to do. I’d recommend either researching CSS, but the best bet would be to find a web designer who can assist you..

I was looking for a theme that would match the content of my new blog about East German Films, and I discovered Greyzed. The combination of the gray, Berlin Wall-like pattern, in combination with the stark red and black constructivist type choices make it so perfect for my blog that I don’t think anyone could have come up with anything more apt. Great work!

I downloaded your Greyzed theme for a client, but it seems that with your theme, when he italicizes a line of text in his WordPress posts, they do not appear italicized on his website. Does Greyzed remove the capability to italicize a font?

Hi Adam, Yes, we’ve noticed this as well and will be updating the theme, however, for the time being – if you open the reset.css file, you can simply locate “em” near line 22/23 and remove it and your italics will work again.

I have a website with your beautiful Greyzed WordPress theme. I love the look, but I wanted to add an image of a police officer with a speed gun in the header. I already have the image, but just didn’t know how to get it into the header. Do you have any suggestions you can offer?

And thank you very much for your Greyzed theme.

@Peter – The way to solve this is with having a basic knowledge of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Due to the nature of this theme being free, we do not offer technical support of this nature. We are releasing an update to the theme during the course of next week, so stay tuned for that..

Is it possible to get the non-wrodpress version without recoding the theme? I’m interested in using it in multiple cms systems

I’m fairly new to wordpress themes. I really love your layout. How do I change it to something else besides the normal wordpress themes?

  343. The Forge says:            August 30, 2010 at 4:18 pm

@JayGreentree – Unfortunately not, but it really wouldn’t take long to recode onto another system, just remember to preserve the footer credit.

    @Tse – I don’t understand what you’re asking, would you elaborate please?

Thanks I’ll work on this sometime this weekend if I need any help or have questions I’ll contact you.

Hi, I have a question about making additional pages. First off, great theme. I am looking to make another page tab across the top of my page (blog.compacc.com).
I am wanting the page to be much like the homepage, but every time i get the chance to make the page i can only do default, archive, or links. I want to do a regular page so I can do our 50 year anniversary events on it. Please help if you can

@JBrown – Due to the nature of the theme being free, we do not cater for individual requests, as you can imagine. Naturally we do our best to please everyone as much as we can, so we add them to a list and do periodic releases. We are releasing an update of Greyzed in the next few hours, so stay tuned!

understandable, wasn’t asking about you making a page for me, was just wondering if you had any pointers on how i can add a page that is different from the 3 selectable ones. I am in a real bind here and need this to get fixed ASAP
