After the successful development The Wedding Directory, we were commissioned by Limelight Websites to build another directory site for them – Sprogs.

Sprogs showcases a useful collection of child-related resources in South Africa, from events and shows to schools and support groups.  The website is powered by WordPress and includes a number of interactive features like blog posts, birth notice submissions and voting polls.

Here are some of the important elements we incorporated into the redevelopment:

  • Advanced Post Custom Fields -Additional details relevant to the section to which a post belongs are aggregated and stored much more efficiently than standard custom fields. This allows for the system to be highly powerful without compromising efficiency.
  • Improved Category Filtering – The system not only offers users two levels of filtering for finding listings but also offers complete control over which criteria are used in each level. This means users can filter listings first by type and then area, or first by area and then type.
  • Enhanced Pagination -Improving on the standard WordPress next and previous post pagination links which can ensure that the posts share at least one category. Sprogs service provider pagination links efficiently ensure that pagination links to a post which shares all the same categories as the current post.

The Forge Web Creations was commissioned by LimeLight Websites to redevelop one of South Africa’s largest wedding directories onto a Content Management System (CMS?) to allow for easier management thereof. The website was built on top of Wordpress, simply for it’s many fantastic features.

Here are some of the important elements we incorporated into the redevelopment:

  • Mass emailer – Users on the website are able to email all service providers within a specific category. This means that if a user is uncertain of which service provider to use, they can simply email all the service providers by only completing one form.
  • Custom post queries – The system has the ability to allow users to view all service providers in a specific category and then refilter all the results against another category, but remain inside the initial category. This allows users to quickly and easily find what they are looking for without being shown irrelevant results.
  • Administrator notifications – The system notifies the administrator when various listings are going to expire, this is an automatic procedure and the administrator receives a CSV file with all the expiring listings.
  • Custom templates – Each category and article being displayed on the website has the ability to have a unique look and feel, this allows for a website that doesn’t look generic or repetitive.

The Forge Web Creations has had an on-going relationship with Cape Town City Ballet for the last decade and recent economic changes has put Cape Town City Ballet under huge financial pressure, so much so that we’re doing everything we can to raise money to ensure that the 75 year-old institution is kept alive.

The Forge Web Creations has launched a national marketing campaign to create awareness and solicit donations from people across South Africa. The campaign is driven from a central website – www.savecapetowncityballet.co.za. There’s a little something for everyone, people who donate stand the chance of winning some lovely prices:

  • One of 5 double tickets to the Cape Town City Ballet POETRY IN MOTION GALA EVENT, happening at the Artscape Theatre on the 9th of May.
  • 24 Bottles of wine from the personal collection of Cape Town’s food and wine guru, Michael Olivier, plus 3 signed copies of his book.
  • A magnificent poster-sized photographic print from Cape Town City Ballet’s current photographer, Pat Bromilow-Downing.

If you’re interested in getting involved, please don’t hesitate to visit www.savecapetowncityballet.co.za.

Last but not least, WantItAll.co.za are kindly providing us with a brand new Apple iPad 16GB to give away to the website publisher or blogger who raises the most money via donations through their website. The Forge Web Creations was commissioned to redesign the Cape Villa Collection website as well as build a property management system to allow for easy maintenance of the properties and expand the website to accommodate for apartments.

Wordpress was chosen as the framework for it’s impressive features and the property management system was built directly into Wordpress to allow for easy management of the properties without using any 3rd party software. Other features integrated with the system involved site search, RSS feeds, news archives and a dynamic enquiry form. Further to this, a Featured Property box was built to rotate through featured properties and a Latest Property function was built in the footer of the website to show the latest properties as they are added to the website.

The look and feel of the new website is a custom Wordpress design, which was marked up in valid CSS/XHTML and integrated into the Wordpress framework.

Michael Olivier trained at The London Cordon Bleu Cookery School and is a well known Cape food and wine fundi. Michael is an expert when it comes to people, places, wine and food and he recently approached The Forge Web Creations to create an online brand for him, and a site that he could use to easily publish his knowledge and share his various experiences in the hospitality industry.

The Forge jumped at the opportunity and eagerly set about creating a system in which Michael could publish his information and opinions. We also implemented additional services such as an advert management system, RSS syndication and newsletter subscription.

We are now extremely proud to announce the launch of Michael Olivier’s new online brand
